Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager (High Tech ITE Manufacturer in the SF Bay Area)

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership and hands-on mechanical design, thermal characterization, qualification (mechanical and environmental) and agency compliances for all of Infoblox products. He/she will be the primary contact to work with sheet metal design and manufacturing houses, product qualification and agency compliance labs. In addition to the design and development work, he/she will work very closely with Manufacturing engineering and Supply Chain teams, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to transfer the designs, manage product transition and support sustaining activities through product life cycle involving mechanical, thermal and agency compliance related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• As the lead Mechanical product development person, the individual will work on the mechanical design of the chassis level products covering all the sub-assemblies (Motherboard, Power supplies, Hard disk drives, Fan assemblies and other add-on cards).
• The individual will drive and be involved in playing a critical role in the introduction of new products from concept to component selection through integration using internal and external system integrators and contract manufacturers during the product transition.
• Responsible to build considerable design margins on the thermal requirements of the products by appropriately simulating the thermal models of all the components and sub-assemblies and be the subject matter expert on the thermal characterization of the end products.
• Develop mechanical design and requirement specification and work with the sheet metal houses to deliver the high quality design within the projected time and cost objectives.
• Will be the primary contact for internal and external vendors on mechanical, thermal and Mechanical DVT related matters including making thermal improvements to the released products.
• Will be involved in project management covering budget planning, schedule to meet time critical product availability and release objectives to meet company’s goals.
• Generate DVT plans on mechanical including vibration and drop tests, environmental and EMI requirements for enterprise grade appliances.
• Work with power supply, hard disk drive and fan vendors on technical and quality requirements to better optimize the overall mechanical design of the enclosures.
• Will interact with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Materials organizations within Infoblox and at the manufacturing partners’ on all the technical matters including field failures and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Familiar with compliance requirements for Infoblox products and work with Agency compliance labs on Safety and Emission requirements covering multiple countries.

Skills and Experience:

• Must have extensive experience with server based products and have had direct experience in bringing products from concept stage to final volume production release including supporting the products through the sustaining phase of product life cycle.
• Experience with x86 server based appliances covering 1U through 4U products.
• Strong project management skill and team building, and ability to manage multi-cultural and remote teams including virtual teams belonging to suppliers and prior experience in bringing out cost effective designs to volume production.
• Must be able to read and understand component specifications.
• Solid verbal, written communication and vendor management skills.
• Hands on experience in the use of Mechanical design software (Pro-E, AutoCAD, Solid Works or equivalent) and Thermal modeling, simulation and characterization CFD software (FloTherm, Macromedia, IcePak or equivalent).
• Thorough understanding of mechanical design methodology and product development and lifecycle management, plastic & sheet metal tooling processes for high volume products.
• Able to effectively organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

Requirements:

Ideal Candidate will have a MS in ME, Material Science with 10 to 15 years of experience in server based hardware products covering mechanical design, thermal, MDVT and Agency compliances. The candidate must have experience bringing up contract manufacturers on new products (NPI), developing and sustaining volume production and taking ownership of all phases of product introduction. Basic knowledge of networking hardware is required.
