Argentina S (certification) or T (Type Approval) Marks

In Argentina most electrical and electronic products (see below) rated less than 5 kW are regulated for safety. EMC is not regulated at this time

Most typical schemes are mentioned below:

A. Type approval or T-Mark:

- Certification based on the evaluation of a sample of the product (type testing acc. to relevant standards)
- No annual fees
- No modifications allowed
- No assessment of the series production of the product (factory follow-up)
- The Type or T Mark Logo must be displayed on the product, but does not allow the use of an test agency Mark
of conformity
- The product is subject to a periodic market surveillance within 90 calendar days from the certificate'sdate of issuance. The verification shall consist on an identity verification on one sample per each
certificate issued. Subsequent evaluations must be carried out every 180 days from the first control, consisting in reduced tests on 1 out of 5 certificates.


B. Argentina S-mark approval:

- Certification covers series production of the product
- Annual fees payable for the use of the Argentina S-mark logo
- Modifications of the product allowed (of course, updates must be formally submitted as for other certifications
- Annual factory inspection required.
- The Argentina Safety Mark, along with the proprietary logo of test agency must be placed on the product
- Compulsory market surveillance: must be performed at least once a year, starting within the first 180 calendar days from the licence’s date of issuance. The evaluation will consist in a reduced test or an
identity verification on 1 out of 5 licenses certified for the same license holder.

Notes:

Argentina S-mark implies annual factory inspection and annual fees , but is more flexible as regards market surveillance. Type approval has no factory assesment, but requires that a market surveillance is performed on each certified product. In other words, the market surveilalnce (or in-country follow-up)is more strict for Argentina Type approved products than products certified for S-mark.

Product modifications on Type approved products require a full re-submittal, whereas S Mark allows updating of the original test reports

· Skin and hair care appliances Clothes dryers
· Dishwashers
· Electrical instantaneous water heaters
· Electrical storage water heaters
· Fans
· Gas appliances with electrical devices
· Household and commercial cooking appliances
· Hydro-washers
· Lawn mowers and hand-held lawn-edge trimmers
· Luminaries
· Microwave ovens
· Vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines and other devices for floor treatment and cleaning
· Washing machines

· Electric and electronic equipment and devices consuming less than 5kva, not included above.
· Materials for electrical installations rated under 63Amp., not included above

· Only the following products with voltage operation below 50V are required to be certified :
- Luminaries and power source systems for luminaries connected to mains.
- Dichroic lamps and its lamp holders
- Hand held tools battery operated
- Electric fences
- Muscle stimulators for gym activity


NOTE
According to Resolution 198/2004, products operating only with batteries do not need certification, except those listed above. Products rated below than 50V with dual (battery or adaptor) operation, with adaptor provided by the manufacturer must have adaptor duly certified. The owner’s manual must indicate that only the original adaptor provided can be used for safety reasons.
In case that the adaptor is not provided by the manufacturer, the main characteristics of the required power supply must be indicated in the owner’s manual.
