Japan PSE Mark

Anyone interested in regulatory information regarding the Japan Denan Law and the PSE Mark for Specified Electrical Equipment and non-specified Electrical Equipment?

Regulator: http://www.meti.go.jp/

RegulatedProducts:

Specified -requires a compliance cert from an authorized METI accredited body and product must be marked with the diamond PSE Mark with the reporting supplier info and certification body logo adjacent to the Mark. Reporting supplier in Japan must register with METI and declare business activity with foreign exporter.

Non-Specified - self declaration but many reporting supplier's require a test report and/or cert from a third party certification agency. Product must be marked with the PSE Mark within a circle and reporting supplier info. Reporting suplier must register with METI and declare business activity with foreign exporter.

(Specified electrical appliances) - http://www.meti.go.jp/policy/consumer/seian/denan/hourei/denkiyouhin_ichiran/tokutei_denki.htm(Non-specified electrical appliances)http://www.meti.go.jp/policy/consumer/seian/denan/hourei/denkiyouhin_ichiran/tokuteigai_denki.htm

Standards used to show compliance:

Japanese Standards harmonized with IEC Standards or Japanese technical standards for both safety and RFI (emissions only). Reports must show proper Japan voltage and freq1uency 100 V 50 and 60 Hz or 200 V, 50 and 60 Hz.

Notes:

1) Low voltage products such as a cell phone are exempt from Denan safety regulations. However, the cell phone charger is not exempt and covered under "Specified Electrical Appliances" as "DC Power Supply"

2) Japan has 50 Hz or 60 Hz depending on region. As such test reports must cover both 50 and 60 Hz. Also make sure you cover the proper supply voltage 100 V ac or 200 Vac depending on the application.

3) Reporting supplier must keep an authorized certified copy of the certification body cert for "Specified Electrical Appliances" and ensure products are marked properly. For "Non-specified Electrical Appliances", the reporting supplier must keep a copy of the test reports and ensure products are mared properly
