United Arab Emirates (UAE) TRA Approval

The Country:

United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven independent emirates lying along the east central coast of the Arabian Gulf.

The seven emirates are: Abu Dhabi (capital of the UAE), Dubai, Al Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Al Fujairah, bounded on the north by the Arabian Gulf, on the east by Sultanate of Oman, and on the west by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The total area of the UAE is about 83,600 sq. km (with a total of 200 islands).

Telecom Regulator:

Telecommunication Regulatory Authority: http://www.tra.ae/

Frequency and Power Levels:

Only the following frequency bands can be used for Wireless Local Area Networks inside buildings:

(2.400 – 2.4835 Giga Hertz), provided that the Max. Mean EIRP (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) shall not exceed 100 mW.

(5.150 - 5.350, 5.470 – 5.875 Giga Hertz), provided that the Max. Mean EIRP shall not exceed 200 mW.

Where the mean EIRP refers to the EIRP during the transmission burst which corresponds to the highest power, if power control is implemented.
The frequency bands designated for use of Wireless Local Area Networks in Article 6 above are also allocated for the primary use of a number of fixed and mobile wireless telecommunication services. Operation of Wireless Local Area Networks in these frequency bands is permitted on a secondary use basis, whereby these Wireless Local Area Networks shall not claim any protection against the primary radio services frequencies assigned by the TRA within these bands, and shall not cause any interference to any of these primary radio services. In all cases of harmful interference, the WLAN user shall cease the use of related equipment.

For an access point or base station in the 5 GHz frequency range it shall have as a basic requirement the offer of dynamic frequency selection (DFS) and technical power control (TPC), to ensure the co-existence and compatibility with other systems using the frequency range.
The DFS and TPC requirements as outlined in ITU-R Recommendation M.1652 are to be observed while applying for the type approval of the devices in the 5 GHz frequency range. Parameters and values are summarized below:

DFS Detection Threshold: -62 dBm
Channel Availability Check Time: 60 sec prior to channel use
Non Occupancy Period: 30 min
Channel Move Time: 10 sec
Automatic Transmit Power Control : at least 3dB on average (all devices)
6 dB on a device level
